Just thought I'd update this journal with some info, since I see that there are still new members joining. This group is not an active group anymore. I'm not even close to having the time to keep it up, and so far none has volunteered to step in as new admin. I really wish that I'd have the time to keep this group active, but it's not possible, I'm afraid.

So.

Until further notice the group is inactive. If you would like to take responsibility for the group, send me a note, but until then, nothing more will be updated here. Thank you to everyone who joined this group since the beginning!

Weekly Challenge

Topic 7th to 13th of March:

Write an action sequence about a robbery

Write an action sequence where a robbery occurs. Viewpoint is entirely up to you. Remember that it's an action sequence, so there'll probably not be a lot of description, and the sentences are typically short and to the point. The aim with an action sequence is to be exciting.

Rules and information:
1. The Challenge runs exactly one week. The Challenge is posted each Friday, my time.

2. Challenges are not limited to our members, but only members can submit their pieces in the gallery.

3. Once you have completed the challenge, you may submit your work to the "Weekly Challenge" folder in our gallery. Your work should preferably be submitted no later than a week after the challenge has ended. Work submitted for this folder must be written specifically for the challenges.

6. You can interpret the Challenge in any way that you wish, and are encouraged to be original (though it's not a must). Many topics can be tackled both literally and figuratively.

Challenge types
I've been doing some serious thinking lately, and decided to come up with an overview over the different challenges that will be introduced over the next weeks.

Topic Challenges
You can write whatever you like, as long as it fits a certain theme/topic in some way.

Genre Challenges
You can write whatever you like, but the story must fit into a certain genre, or a certain combination of genres.

Character Challenges
Write whatever you like as long as you include a set character which will be described when the challenge is posted.

Setting Challenges
Write in a specific setting - details will be given for the specific challenge.

Quote Challenge
Work a specific quote into some part of the story

Beginning Challenges
Continue on an already set first paragraph

Craft Challenges
These are challenges designed to exercise a specific part of the writing process. These may be: Dialogue, description, action sequences, plot, etc.

Collective story
This is an idea that I've had for a while, which should be a fairly familiar exercise. Basically the idea is that we start out with a first paragraph. You will then write the next one. The first one to post will get his/her paragraph added to the story, and then we'll continue next week in the same way, and see where we're headed. This will probably be kept as a separate project from the Weekly Challenges.

Finally, I am always open to suggestions, and suggestions for specific challenges and/or new challenge types are always welcome. Not to mention, if you think a certain type is absolute rubbish, I definitely want to hear it. ;)

Hey! Sorry for advertising, but a mate of mine (who is a writer) just recently made this website blog thing for fantasy writing, worldbuilding, and characterisation tips.
It focuses a lot on realism and warfare as well.

He doesn't have a dA account so he's been bugging me to advertise the site for aaggeess. Yup. So please check it out xD
And please post it on your journal if you think it’s any good and will help other writers! Thanks!

By the way, since I’m putting up websites for fantasy writing stuff, here are Limyaael’s Rants for those who don’t know of them already. Quite famous in the fantasy writing world! :)

Haru Totetsu: I have writers block with all 10 ideas I have and its because I like to plan things out but I'm not sure what I need to plan out. I'll list below what I've began on but I feel I'm missing something.

1. Plot
2. Characters
3. World Map/ Setting
4. World History
5. Races and Species
6. Languages
7. Religion
8. Science and Magic
9. Cultures

You see I like to flesh the world they inhabit out and I feel like there's something I'm missing. Any ideas?

Yes, but I'm also going through some personal things at the moment so writing is the last thing on my mind.
